NEWBOLD WOMEN’S GROUP
Ruth welcomed around 30 members to the parish room for the April meeting. Prayers were said and Wendy Halsall and Ann Moseley were especially remembered. There were three visitors, Pat Mason, Barbara Mann and Annette Priestley, and one new member Pat Dickinson; all were welcomed by Ruth.
The business included reminding ladies of the trip to Tissington, for a private tour round the house and gardens, on Wednesday July 2nd. We have 22 members on this at present. Members were also able to sign up for joining the Mothers Union on a day trip to Buxton, on Wednesday 30th July, to see Fr. Keith and his churches; several wish to do so. The raffle was won by Christine Wieloch and then Ruth introduced our speaker, Abigail Ashley.
Abbey is raising money to visit Cambodia as a volunteer in November, for two weeks. She is a trained dental nurse and will assist with providing the children over there with pain relief and education about preventative tooth decay. To assist with financing this project, Abbey
makes candles from soya wax and the different aromas are refreshing and relaxing. She had brought a selection to sell and for orders to be placed. She showed us pictures of the young people in Cambodia and the dental conditions over there, to illustrate why this work is needed. Everyone was very supportive. Ruth thanked her and wished her trip successful on behalf of all the group.
The next meeting will be on 7th May, 7.30pm in the parish room and we will hear about the work of Mr. Paul Beard, a magistrate. The tea will be served by Ann Lee and Audrey Powell and the raffle prize provided by Kath Shelton.
