NEWBOLD WOMENS GROUP.
Our speaker at the September meeting was Mr. Sean Power , the Manager of Pathways, the Centre for homeless people on Stand Road. He gave us a fascinating insight into the history of homelessness and how it was dealt with in years gone by.Those who have been round the Workhouse at Southwell Notts. Will be aware of the very harsh conditions which were the fate of those with “no fixed abode”.Things have greatly improved since then.Sean answered numerous questions and members donated items of clothing, tins of food and other items of use to the centre.
As the place is staffed mainly by volunteers all offers of help are gratefully received.Indeed, one of our group members , Mrs. Maureen Mc Donald is a volunteer and she gave the vote of thanks.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday 3rd October when Marian Pateman will give a talk on Peru. The November meal will be discussed and a list sent round for food for the December Party. Ruth will also be recruiting readers for the Carol Service.
