Newbold Women’s Group March 2023

The Annual General Meeting of the group was held on 1 March in the Parish Room, when we were reminded of the full programme of speakers who had come along to cover a variety of topics over the last year.

The ‘Annual Outing’ in June had been a visit to Chesterfield Football Club, at the Technique Stadium, with tour and buffet lunch to follow, which had been experienced by a good number of members. The ‘Meal Out’ was held at Walton Golf Club Restaurant in November when 21 members enjoyed the meal and the company, and a chance to get to socialise with others. We were able to hold our Christmas Celebration in December when Anne P kindly accompanied the singing of the Carols on her keyboard.

A copy of the speakers’ programme for this coming year, organised by the committee, was circulated to all members, and suggestions for future speakers, the outing and meal out were thrown open to all. Margaret F, a committee member, put forward the possibility of a day trip to Boundary Mill, near Rotherham, on the last Wednesday in June and a list was duly circulated. Of those present, a total of 20 were interested.

Sadly, as a result of the passing of Mavis Chambers on Christmas Day, the committee had now been reduced from six to five, so the group is hoping for at least one other person to help out. Members were asked to think about it and maybe offer their services. Mavis had served the Women’s Group for many years, so her valuable input would certainly be missed, especially thinking of her quizzes.

Under any other business, Margaret F. made us aware of the need for bedding, curtains and towels for Ukrainian refugees living locally, as proper accommodation is being made available to them. Any of these items could be delivered to The Central Methodist Church in Saltergate, at present each Saturday from 11am to 3.00pm. Alternatively, any donations could be brought to the Women’s Group meetings and handed directly to Margaret.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 5 April when our guest speaker will be Marjorie Dunn, a local lady, who will be talking about ‘Queen Mary’s Dolls House’. Do come along and join us if you can at 7pm in the Parish Room. Everyone will be welcomed. If you need to know more, please do get in touch with Trish, whose contact details can be found at the back of the magazine.
After the meeting all were invited to enjoy the Cheese and Wine refreshments provided by the committee.
