For our first meeting in the new year, on 5th January, we were again in the Parish Room, but with a different format. Paul White, of Snapdragon T’ai Chi, gave a very interesting talk on how he changed from a stressful career to his work in assisting learning and behavioural management, mainly in schools.
Through introducing calming and breathing techniques it has helped to improve behaviour and concentration of pupils. He went on to explain the importance of taking in as much oxygen as possible to improve our health and that anyone of whatever age or level of health can help themselves by using these methods. He then demonstrated the techniques to us, and we were able to join in, moving on slightly from the basics.
Next month, on Wednesday 2nd February, at 7pm in the Parish Room, there will be a talk by Rev Sally-Anne Beecham about Hope House, a residence for homeless men on Derby Road, Chesterfield. We will hear of how the home came to exist and about the work that is done now to help those in need.
