THE WALKING GROUP
Ten members ventured out for the monthly walk on a sunny, Sunday afternoon in December.
We managed to park our cars in Baslow despite the fact that many people were parking in the area and then walking to Chatsworth market which was being held on that weekend. Apparently, parking was restricted at Chatsworth, so many drivers were opting for a short walk to their destination.
Our walk, this time was linear rather than the usual circular, due to a variety of reasons, one being the shortness of daylight and another due to an excess of water and mud in the local countryside.
We walked to the kissing gate in Chatsworth Park and crossed over a road and onto a wide plastic pathway, kindly placed on the edge of the grassland for the expected foot traffic wanting to reach the market stalls, situated on the approach to the House.
We walked towards Endsor and at the gates, turned around and replaced our steps but on a lower level to the first path used. Many family groups passed us carrying an assortment of Christmas decorations bought at the market, from large reindeers for the front gardens and very big wooden hearts for who knows where. Back at the kissing gate we had to queue to enter. From comments heard, some of these people hadn’t used this type of gate before. Back at our cars we discussed the January walk and Steve generously volunteered to sort out a walk which will probably be around and about Chesterfield town, for a change. If anyone would like to join us it will be on Sunday 5th, meeting at 12pm outside the church gates. Please bring a packed lunch and suitable walking boots.
