Service of closure
This took place on Wednesday April 11th in St. John’s Church at 2pm. The Rector, Ben Griffiths, was the Celebrant and Mrs. Wendy
Fitch, the Derby Diocesan Mothers Union President, gave the address. During the service, the Newbold banner was paraded down the church aisle, received by Fr. Ben and placed on display.
We were very grateful to Stuart Watkinson for playing the following hymns, Tell out my Soul, O Jesus I have promised, Lord of all hopefulness and Lord of the Years.
The 24 strong congregation all sang out well, and although a sad occasion, we remembered good works done in the past and the friendship and fellowship enjoyed by members. We were pleased to welcome members from Loundsley Green and Wingerworth branches, at present, still in the Chesterfield Deanery.
Special thanks must go to Annette Priestley for arranging the pedestal flowers in the Mothers Union colours of blue and white; we could all admire them as we waited for Communion at the altar rail.
After the service, refreshments were served in the Parish Room and a wonderful cake, made by Ann Adams, was cut by Mrs. Iris Gill, our oldest M.U. member present, assisted by Wendy Fitch.
There were photographs of past outings and members on display and a tablecloth with the embroidered names of over 70 previous members.
If anyone wishes for further information on the Mothers Union, or the pictures, please see me in church or telephone 450797.
The four remaining members are to join the Loundsley Green branch and we very much look forward to their May meeting.
