One member of Newbold M.U. was able to attend the Archdeaconry Festival at St. Helen’s Church, Darley Dale. Our banner was proudly paraded into church and on show during the service. About 50 members attended and tea and coffee and wonderful home-made cakes were consumed afterwards. It was a most pleasant evening and St. Helen’s is a very pretty church.
The June meeting of Newbold M.U. was held in the Parish Room on 14th at 2pm. Six members attended and there was much discussion on the future of our little group. Young women are all at work now, and could certainly not attend any daytime meetings. The present membership (our youngest member is 70!) do not wish to go out in the evenings. Over tea and cake and biscuits we talked out this problem. We have two other members apart from the six present, however, one of these is in a nursing home and another lady is extremely muddled and forgetful. Eventually it was decided that we meet only in the summer months, commencing in 2018.
We cannot afford expensive speakers and so we will arrange a program accordingly, to suit our age group, abilities and budget. Rather than close, we felt that this solution would be better.
We held our raffle and prizes were won by Margaret Beasley and Iris Gill.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 12th July, 2-4pm and will be a Strawberry Tea at Ruth’s home, The Spinney, 150 St. John’s Road. We hope for a warm afternoon so that the garden can be used.
Please do pray for us all. Ruth Cable (Committee Member)
