Six members of the Newbold branch of Mothers’ Union joined a combined Bolsover/Chesterfield Deanery day out, on Tuesday 11th October. This was arranged by Mrs. Mary Revell, President of Bolsover Deanery and Mrs. Jean Anderson, President of Chesterfield Deanery. Members and friends enjoyed a coach trip to Newark and Southwell where we all explored the wonderful Minster.
Newbold Mothers’ Union AGM was on the following day and eight members were present. Fr. Ben Griffiths conducted Mass in the Lady Chapel at 2pm and then we convened in the Parish Room. Sadly one of our longest-serving members Mrs. Ethel Godber had lost her son-in-law and his funeral was taking place in our church that afternoon. Mrs. Iris Gill attended and gave our condolences. Our opening prayers included all Ethel’s family. The three officers gave their reports and asked if anyone wished to become committee members. As no-one came forward, the committee remains as
Mrs. Anne Hartley (Leader), Miss Margaret Beasley (Treasurer) and Mrs. Ruth Cable (Secretary). The business concluded at 3.15pm and tea and biscuits were served by Mrs. Hartley and Mrs. Ashton, the raffle was won by Mrs. Iris Gill.
