WALKING GROUP
As previously arranged, the group ate their packed lunches in the Parish Room before venturing out into persistent rain. We had decided that as we were already clothed in our waterproofs we might as well do a shortened version of the prepared walk. So, without more ado, we set off for Holmebrook Valley Park for an amble around the lake.
The river was a dirty grey colour and running high but most of us wore Wellingtons so the areas of mud and the frequent puddles we came across didn’t bother us. A lone squirrel saw us and scurried into the undergrowth. We were stopped by a man and women who admitted they had lost their bearings and needed to know in which direction Chesterfield was. It was good to know that we aren’t the only ones who get lost from time to time.
Beside the lake, we saw half a dozen fishermen, crouched beneath their outsized umbrellas, but we weren’t near enough to ask how successful they had been.
On arriving home, I realised how wet my clothing was, which in fact took two days to dry out!

Next month’s 6 mile walk on the 7th, will be led by Bob Cable from Ogston, through Ashover and Highoredish. We meet outside church at 12noon with a packed lunch before piling into cars to get to our starting point. We are a very small, friendly group, aged 50 plus and welcome anyone who would like to join us.
