NEWBOLD WOMEN’S GROUP
Ruth welcomed the ladies and said a short prayer to commence the meeting. She then welcomed Carole Kitchener as a guest ; Carole was a member of the Women’s Group when it was the “Young Wives”. There were eight apologies.
Ruth explained that no-one had yet offered to be a new leader, if this was still the case next month (March) when we have the AGM, the committee would be looking for two new members to join them, and help to run the club. She said that being a leader was not a difficult job, as we did not have to obey regulations from a national executive, as many clubs do.
She urged members to attend the AGM and reminded them that cheese and biscuits and wine and soft drinks would be available. The subscription fee stays at £7 per year, a real bargain.
Ruth mentioned that the April meeting falls in Holy Week (April 1st) and we would have an Easter Bonnet Competition with a prize for the best one. She would ask a non-member of the group to be the judge, so as to be perfectly fair to all! Hot cross buns would be seasonal refreshments, Jean Lee and Ruth would serve these.
Our speakers were Mrs Sue Spriggs and Mrs Jean Hartley. They explained that their charity fund-raising took the title “Pearl one Knit One” – the first to do with jewellery and the second, knitting. They are long standing friends and decided to ‘give back’ something when they retired. They were both good at knitting and sewing and things progressed from there. This year they are supporting the “Air Ambulance” and “Tiny Tim”, charities in Derbyshire. A large selection of scarves, gloves, hats, brooches, necklaces, book covers and various accessories was on display for members to browse and purchase if they so wished.
Coffee and biscuits was served by Lynda Baker and Marion Robertshaw and the raffle prize provided by Margaret Holinstead and won by Maureen Higginbottom.
AGM on March 4th at 7.30pm.
