NEWBOLD WOMEN’S GROUP
Thirty six ladies attended the April meeting and were warmly welcomed by Ruth Cable. Prayers were said and those unable to attend because of illness or family problems, were remembered.
Members were reminded about the church coffee morning on Saturday 6th April 10-12 noon in the parish room, which the Women’s Group were running. The concert of organ music and songs, by Fr. Nigel and Hannah Johnson was that same evening at 7.15pm, tickets were available from Evelyn Lowe. All proceeds to go into the organ fund.
Our speaker was Mr. John Grubb, from the RNLI who was welcomed and introduced by Ruth. His talk was entitled “Flood Rescue”. A most appropriate subject, considering the recent weather. John gave us an insight into the ‘inshore’ work of the RNLI, battling flooded rivers and damage from storms to rescuing people and sometimes animals. In some cases, these missions appeared to be more dangerous than those out at sea. Lots of questions were asked and it is clear that, no matter where in this country you live, there may well be need for the services of the RNLI one day.
John kindly picked the winning raffle ticket and Ann Lee was the lucky lady.
The next Women’s Group meeting is on Wednesday 1st May, 7.30pm in the parish room, when PCSO Rebecca King will talk about “Action Against Crime”. All ladies are welcome to come and join us.
