The lessons were excellently read by Emma and Matthew Lawrence. The children helped to deliver the sermon. They had given Heather a list of qualities found in their mothers. Heather presented the sermon as a recipe for a cake with the children telling the congregation the different qualities and bringing to the front props they had made. Heather tied the qualities of a mother in with qualities of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the qualities of the Mother Church. While the cake was ‘baking’ the children did a sketch and a rhyme. At the end a splendid Simnel Cake was produced. This was generously donated by Ann Adams and afterwards the cake went to the staff and residents at Elm Lodge where Jim and John hold a church service with communion every month. The children read prayers and after the distribution of communion and Simnel Cake Emma Lawrence played the flute while Heather read a poem. At the end of the service posies of flowers were given to all the ladies.
