Sunday 1st April arrived sunny but cold and nine of us met at st. John’s Church for the monthly walk. On the outward journey. we were delighted to see a hare running across the fields. On arrival at Alstonefield, uch was taken on the green opposite the George Inn, surrounded by daffodils and watched by a metal T. Rex! We walked and talked our way to Coldeaton Bridge on the Dove, then followed the river to Milldale. Here we had a short break to look at Viator’s Bridge, named after the traveller in Isaac Walton’s ‘The Complete Angler’. Some of our party visited Polly’s Cottage where drinks and ice cream are served from a small window. The next part of the walk took us to the Watts Russell Arms and the hamlet of Hopedale(population 17 people, 5 dogs, 3 cats!). We then made our way back to Alstonefield. This proved to be a very enjoyable walk, thanks to our leader Trish ( Pat Law).
The next walk is on Sunday 6th May, led by me, from Wadshelf and towards Bluster Castle. Everyone is welcme. For futher information please ring Colin Hand on 204903
