The Group met for their AGM in March in the Parish Room. There was quite a disappointing turn out on the evening, although there were a number of apologies and these mainly for health reasons.
The Minutes of the last AGM from 1 March 2023 were read out as was the Financial Report both of which were approved by members. Attendance at meetings was to be kept at £2 to help towards Speaker’s Fees, and the hire of the room.
The General Report reminded everyone of Speakers and Events held over the previous year, when the Annual ‘Day Out’ in June had been a visit to Boundary Mill near Rotherham which all who went enjoyed. For the Annual Meal in November, the Group again went to the Restaurant at Chesterfield Golf Club.
A new Programme of Events for the coming year had been e-mailed to members prior to the meeting, with extra copies available on the night.
The Committee is now reduced to 5 ladies, having had one resignation for personal reasons, so it had been hoped that at least one more member might volunteer to join us. Maybe another might come forward during the year. It would be great if they did.
Under A.O.B. it was noted that the Women’s Group has agreed to host a Church Coffee Morning in the Parish Room on Saturday 3 August 2024. We discussed the possibility of having a boat trip on the River Trent in July, which some members had experienced previously, and recommended. One suggestion for a future Speaker was forthcoming and noted.
The meeting ended at 7.40pm after which all members present were invited to help themselves to Cheese and Wine/Soft Drinks provided by the Committee.
The next meeting is to be on Wednesday 3 April at 7pm, when Jackie Morgan will be talking to us on ‘Besant, Bradlaugh and Butler’, all Victorian social reformers whose influences are still affecting our lives today.
It would be good to see others come along and join us on the 1st Wednesday of the month. If you wish to know more then do speak to Trish, Marilyn J., or myself.
