THE WALKING GROUP
After a morning of continuous rain, eight of us met at 12pm under cloudy skies to journey to Timber Lane Car Park to walk the paths of the Five Pits Trail, created in 1989.
Trish Law confidently led us towards WIlliamthorpe Ponds and on towards Wolfie Pond, a popular fishing venue, ringed by bulrushes. Two fishermen were standing patiently on the opposite bank in the sunshine.
Despite walking along man-made footpaths, we couldn’t avoid areas of mud and large, murky puddles, but we enjoyed the chat and the exercise on a surprisingly sunny afternoon.
The next walk on Sunday 1st March will leave the church gates at 1.15pm as a retirement lunch has been arranged at 12pm to say thank you to Heather for 20 years as Lay Reader at our church.
Steve Franks will be the leader for the short walk starting from Calver. As we will be eating in the parish room before we set off, we only need suitable clothing and footwear. Anyone wanting to join our walk will be made very welcome. For more information please ring Steve whose number appears on the back page of this magazine.
