THE WOMEN’S GROUP TRY TO IDENTIFY ARTEFACTS FROM THE PAST.
We welcomed three new members, Marilyn, Yvonne and Hilary to our first meeting this year on February 6th and also remembered Iris Moore who died suddenly just before Christmas. Iris had been a member for many years and was always very appreciative and always said how much she enjoyed the meetings whether it was a speaker, a quiz or a social event. We also remembered a former member Barbara Green in our prayers as she is not at all well at the moment.
We had a return visit from the Leader Brothers at our meeting. We were shown in turn ten interesting artefacts for us to handle and were given some clues about them. We then had to write down what we thought. Leo presented each item in an amusing way and he also tried to involve everyone in discussions as well. The objects were as diverse as a strop (used to sharpen barber’s razors,) a tinder box, a copper mulled wine holder and a cast iron candle wax maker.
One of our new members, Marilyn managed the highest mark by getting 9 out of 10 answers correct and also won the raffle prize so she had a very successful evening!
Our next meeting, which is the AGM, will be held on Wednesday 7th March at 7.00pm in the Parish Room. Pat Law, our Treasurer, will be collecting annual subscriptions and next year’s programme of meetings and events will be given out. We need two new committee members to replace me as Secretary and June Shaw as a committee member as we both indicated at last year’s AGM that we wished to stand down.
The meeting will finish with cheese and wine provided by the committee.
Jean Lee (Secretary)
