MOTHERS UNION – Deanery Event
Bolsover & Staveley & Chesterfield Deaneries
Three Newbold M.U. members attended a joint Deanery Day in Bolsover, on Tuesday 27th October. This was arranged by Mrs. Jean Anderson, President of Chesterfield Deanery and Mrs. Mary Revill, Bolsover & Staveley Deanery President.
The day commenced with coffee at 10am in Bolsover Church, followed by a Eucharist, led by Rev. Rachael Goldthorpe. The collection was donated to Bishop Alistair’s project to counteract modern slavery.
We then went over to the church hall, where there was a raffle and stalls selling home made items, a tombola and M.U. literature. After a lovely lunch of soup, rolls and various sweets, we had our talk.
Nick and Chris Roberts told us about their work in the shanty towns of Lima, Peru. In association with the local churches they run a project to employ women in making embroidered items which are then sold. Many examples of the products were on sale and a total of £270.77 was made for the project.
After expenses were paid the total profits were £144 and sums of £48 each were donated to the Britain & Ireland M.U., the Overseas Fund and the General M.U. Relief Fund.
Members enjoyed a pleasant day out and the opportunity to meet others in the Bolsover & Staveley Deanery.
