WALKING GROUP
We were pleased to greet a new member, Sheila Whitehead to our walking group, on a pleasantly warm and sunny evening as we set out for Monyash and our walk in the lovely Lathkill Dale area.
The track was rocky at first, but soon changed to an easier grassy path where we found the rare Jacob’s Ladder in flower. Apart from the bleating of a lone lamb, the chirping of crickets and a single bird song, everywhere was quiet and still. We passed the source of the river, completely dry at this time of year, but it soon appeared, without a ripple, looking like a shimmering sheet of glass. We picnicked, under the shade of an ash tree, beside the Tuffa Falls, where we spotted a grey wagtail and a dipper. We walked through Haddon Grove, past a caravan park, through nettles and across fields of high grass where we were treated to a sudden, short shower, before arriving back at the cars. Thanks to Colin Hand for leading the walk and we hope that Sheila will join us again in the future. She entertained us with her anecdotes and singing.
There will be no walk in August and details of the September walk will
appear in the August magazine as usual.
