MOTHER’S UNION
Mrs Anne Hartley welcomed seven members to the January meeting. Five apologies had been received.
Mrs Anne Whitehead, from Cutthorpe, was welcomed as a member of Newbold, having been a Diocesan member previously.
After prayers, led by Anne, various notices and information was given out.
Women’s World Day of Prayer is on 7th March this year and local churches holding services will be Loundsley Green, Holy Trinity and Storrs Road Methodist. It was generally thought that Holy Trinity would be the most convenient church to attend as the bus stop is right outside.
The Lady Day Service also held in March, will be discussed with the Deanery President at the Deanery meeting at the end of January. Members will be given details at the February meeting.
There will be a conference at the Winding Wheel, on 14th October, this year, 10am – 2pm, all welcome.
The proposed visit to Buxton to see Fr. Keith and his new church was discussed. The present suggested dates are not convenient for several members and so Maureen Holmes agreed to re-negotiate possible dates in July – instead of June. The Strawberry Tea would then be changed from 9th July to 11th June.
Two raffle prizes were won by Ruth Cable and Margaret Beasley and tea and biscuits concluded the meeting.
Our next meeting is on Wednesday 12th February and will be very interesting as Rachel Gouldthorpe, who used to live in Newbold is going to tell us about her journey to becoming the Vicar at Bolsover Church.
