NEWBOLD WOMEN’S GROUP
The annual Carol Service was held on 4th December and was well attended by members, who also welcomed some Mothers’ Union ladies.
Our Rector, Fr. Nigel opened the service with bidding prayers and gave the blessing at the end. Readings were given by Marion Robertshaw, Anne Hartley, Ann Whitehead, Diana Badger and Ruth Cable. Our organist, Stuart Watkinson, played a lovely recital of Christmas music, which showed the versatility of our new organ.
Our Christmas Party, in the parish room followed and everyone enjoyed plenty of good, (and mostly home-made) food and wine. Jean Lee ran the quiz which was won by the team comprising Christine Wieloch, Maureen McDonald, Janet McGurrin and Ann Gill.
Members had been issued with a free raffle ticket on entry and prizes were won by Margaret Rice, Maureen McDonald, Jane French and Elizabeth Watkinson.
The party finished at 10pm.
There will be no January meeting as it falls on New Year’s Day.
On 3rd February we shall have a treat, as Norman Crowson will give us an illustrated talk entitled “A Closer Look at Nature”. Anyone who is interested may attend this meeting, starting at 7.30pm.
Refreshments will be provided by June Shaw and Iris Moore and the raffle prize by Margaret Rice.
The programme for 2014 will be discussed and compiled at the committee meeting at the end of January and should be available for all members when they attend the AGM (with cheese and wine) on Wednesday March 5th in the parish room.
