MOTHERS UNION NEWS
On 5th July, five M.U. members, Mrs Anne Hartley, Mrs Iris Wright, Mrs Edna Haywood, Miss Margaret Beasley and Mrs Ruth Cable attended the centenary celebrations of Wingerworth M.U. This took the form of a beautiful flower festival organised by Mrs Avril Clay, in All Saints Church. The theme was ‘Mothers Union Worldwide’, and all countries with M.U. branches were displayed. The special centenary service was taken by Rev. Peter Swales, who was a Wingerworth resident before leaving to train in the ministry at Cambridge. He is now retired but came back especially for this special event. The service reflected the aims and work of the M.U. around the world. An excellent tea with an anniversary cake, which was jointly cut by Mrs Agnes Garrett, our Diocesan President and Mrs Ruth Smart, the Wingerworth Enrolling Member, rounded of a very enjoyable afternoon. The collection was shared between the work of the M.U. Worldwide and All Saints Church.
NEWBOLD M.U. JULY MEETING
Fourteen members and one Diocesan member enjoyed scones with strawberries and cream, in Ruth’s garden. Items of business were dealt with by Anne Hartley and information on the work of the M.U. plus Christmas gift booklets were given out. Tea was served by Ruth Cable and Anne Hartley and Margaret Beasley sold the raffle tickets. It was agreed that the raffle proceeds go to Foston Prison.
There is no meeting in August, when the Committee meet to plan the programme for 2014.
The A.G.M. with Mass in the Lady Chapel at 2pm, will be on Wednesday September 11th when the Rector will be ‘in the chair’.
