WALKING GROUP
Last month’s walk started from the car park at the Peter Fidler Reserve in Bolsover. Peter was born in Bolsover and became a famousNorth Americapioneer. This reserve and Carr Vale Flash Reserve have been reclaimed from the old colliery works and consist of pleasant walks around large ponds dotted with various bird- watching platforms. We continued on the Stockley Trail and across the fields to Palterton and towardsBolsoverCastle. The castle was built by the Peveril family and was bought by Sir Charles Cavendish in 1612 but is now in the hands of English Heritage. Walking downhill, we came to theModelVillagewhich was designed specifically for the colliery workers in 1890. Two hundred houses were built here. This was another enjoyable walk, giving us access to history and nature.
