WALKING GROUP
By Lucy Dent (aged 12)
The 5 mile walk started in Hope, on a lovely, warm October sunny day. The walk was lead by Steve and Julie with a little help from me. The eleven of us, including a dog, started walking down the road to the farm there was plenty of mud which squelched underneath our feet!
We walked through fields, up hills, past a farm and finally down to the village of Shatton. Our route was undulating all the way. At the bottom of the village was a small ford going through the road. Molly (the dog) thought it was a fantastic time to lay down in the ford to cool off. As she was in the ford everyone was surprised to see a double decker sheep bus drive past. We carried on walking to the main road and crossed over.
We walked on a footpath to a near-by village where we had a break at a Quaker House, a meeting house. We then walked to a farm and went to the stile behind the barn house. As we started to cross the final fields at the end of the walk, we went through a field of cows that were very interested in us as we passed them.
As we got back to the road we slowly started to break up as our cars were parked in different places. We had a wonderful walk with amazing views.
I finished my walk with a big vanilla ice cream – it was delicious, and Molly had one too!
The 5 mile walk planned for Sunday 3rd November will be led by Evelyn and Marilyn over Hathersage Moor. This is an easy walk mainly along wide paths with no stiles but wonderful views all around – weather permitting. All new-comers are welcome to join us. Please turn up at the church gate for 12 noon with walking gear and a packed lunch when transport will be arranged.
