Our visit to Bakewell Museum was excellent and most informative. Twenty three members attended and were warmly welcomed by the volunteer staff. We had tea and cakes with strawberries and scones while the staff explained how they run visits. We then divided into two groups, one going upstairs to view the costumes while the other explored downstairs. The ten roomed house contained 500 years of history, which ranged from a rare Tudor toilet to historical toys. Our guides were most attentive and answered all questions with great knowledge. All to soon it was time to leave and we could not believe how quickly two hours had passed. This is a little hidden gem in the backstreets of Bakewell and our grateful thanks go to Beryl Malcom and Pat Law for arranging it all. No snow this time!
Our next meeting will be on 5th September and the speaker will be Mr Sean Power who is the manager of Pathways. Members are encouraged to bring items of tinned or dried food or male/female clothing in good clean condition.
Any women may join the Women’s Group regardless of creed or background. Please ring either Mrs Jean Lee 237778 or myself on 450797 for more information. You will be made very welcome.
