Newbold Women’s Group
Newbold Women’s Group is a social group that welcomes women from any faith (or none) for the purpose of friendship and stimulation. The meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7:00pm.
These include having a wide range of speakers for some of the meetings as well as outings, meals out, quizzes and holding fund raising events.
In December we hold a Carol Service in church, planned by members, which is followed by a Christmas Party in the Parish Room.
Each March we hold the Annual General Meeting when the committee are elected for the following year. At this meeting members are given details of the planned events for the coming year as well as voting for the charity to support for the next twelve months.
Any additional information can be given by emailing the Church or calling into Church on a Saturday morning.
NEWBOLD WOMEN’S GROUP JULY 2019
Our July meeting was an enjoyable trip to the Crich Tramway Village, with 14 members present. The warm, sunny day was ideal for such an outing and enabled us to make the most of the many facilities available. The far end of the tramline was not available on the day, but we could still ride on as many tram trips as we wished and we particularly enjoyed the “toast rack” tram, so called because of the way that the seats could be moved across when the tram was running its return journey, thus the passengers are always facing forwards. This tram had seen service on Blackpool promenade, so must only have been popular on good days, as it was completely open to the elements. There was a woodland walk, with a sculpture trail of wooden carvings from dead trees, and a labyrinth made from stones. The tram depot was interesting to wander round and there was also a workshop viewing platform, where restoration and repairs were carried out. With food, drink and ice creams to be enjoyed, as well as a gift shop, it all made for a satisfying day.
There is no meeting in August, then on Wednesday, 4th September, we will have a talk on Tools with a Mission by David Sanderson, about this Christian Charity which sends tools across the world. Tombola prizes are required for the October meeting, which will be our annual fundraising event and this year is for the Newbold Church Building Project.
